We Need Better Men

by Lee Buford on September 2, 2010

We need better men.  I need to be a better man. You need to be a better man. And, if you’re a female reading this, you know someone who needs to be a better man. Please share it with the men in your life.

God calls men to lead. We are called to shepherd our families and our churches. We are called to be examples and teachers of godliness in all areas of life. And we all have the opportunity to be better!

My friend and church planter, Chris Hall, shared the following video on facebook. The video is a trailer for Darrin Patrick‘s new book, Church Planter: The Man, the Message, the Mission. Darrin serves as lead pastor of The Journey in Saint Louis, Missouri, and is Vice President of the Acts 29 Church Planting Network.

Whether you’re a pastor or not, take a look. There’s a message here for all of us, and I trust you will be challenged and convicted in many of the ways I was. But most importantly, you will be encouraged to be a better man.

Darrin’s book is brand new. God’s concept of biblical manhood is not.

The consequences of our failure to be godly men are all around us, and it’s time we step up and acknowledge where we’ve failed. We’ve failed our families, we’ve failed our churches, and most shamefully, we’ve failed our Lord and Savior.

But as is the case with all sin and disobedience, God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness are extended to those who repent and move forward in obedience. This is our opportunity, men. In His strength we CAN be the men we are called to be. We CAN be better men. And our families and churches will be better for our being better!

How is God speaking to you in this area? Who else do you know who would benefit from seeing this video or reading the book? Will you be obedient in pursuing God’s calling to biblical manhood?
