Praise God for Your Memories

Advertising and public relations people will tell you that there’s no such thing as bad publicity. No matter the exposure, they argue, you’re still getting the exposure. I can’t say I agree with that in many cases, but I would argue that the same case can be made for memories.

Memories? Yes, memories.

Throughout the year, and especially during the Christmas holidays, memories abound…good and bad. People are hurting due to past failures, sins, and any number things that have left a stain on what would otherwise be a joyful time of year. For others, the season is filled with joy, smiles, and memories of special times with loved ones…times that will always be held up as the “good times”. In either case, the memories are good for us, or at least they should serve us well this time of year.

Whether good or bad, happy or sad, memories can and should always point us to God, to His goodness, His faithfulness, and His mercy. If you’re dealing with bad memories you need to trust in His faithfulness to forgive and provide hope. If you’re celebrating the great times you need to praise Him for His provision and grace in your life. No matter the memory, the end result should be our proper response of praise and worship to our holy, sovereign God.

Make memories this Christmas season, and give Him the praise and glory for all of it! These memories will serve as future examples and testimonies to His faithfulness, love, and grace in our lives.

Don’t fear the memories or avoid the bad ones. Give them to God. And do the same for the good ones. He is sufficient for providing hope, peace, and forgiveness. And He is worthy of all of our praise… in every memory!
