Memorial Day: May We Celebrate Well

by Lee Buford on May 28, 2012

Memorial Day is a great day in America for a number of reasons. It’s also a difficult day for many. As we celebrate today I pray that, in all of our enjoyment, relaxation, and fun, we would celebrate in a manner befitting the reason we celebrate.

  • May we celebrate Memorial Day in the proper manner, in remembrance of those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we so often take for granted.
  • May we take time to teach our children what Memorial Day is really about, that they may grow up with a proper appreciation for the reality that our freedoms are anything but free.
  • May we be reminded to pray for the families of the men and women who’ve died in service to our country, those for which the occasion is a more painful reminder of loved ones lost.
  • May we be reminded of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who made the ultimate sacrifice on the cross. Like all of other days, events, and circumstances, this day gives us yet another opportunity to point to God’s glory and the good news of the gospel.

Memorial Day is indeed a time of celebration and thanksgiving. Accordingly, may we celebrate, relax, and enjoy our time with friends and family.

But, most importantly, may we rightly remember and honor the men and women who’ve given their lives for our right and ability to do so.
