It’s Your Time… Use it Wisely!

by Lee Buford on June 6, 2011

It’s Monday again, and you’re probably running wide open, in six different directions. You’re tired, stressed, and running on empty. You’re probably even convinced you need to do something different.

So what are you doing about it?

Busy is crazy, it’s overwhelming, and it’s ultimately not profitable. I’ve written on the subject several different times. And Chris Brogan wrote a great piece on how he’s dealing with it in his own life, including some things he’s doing to try to regain some time, margin, and personal space. That’s the ultimate point we all come to, whether you see it now or not. Everything has a ceiling, a maximum capacity, a breaking point…and you WILL get to the point where you have no other choice but to make some changes.

Most of us try to be too many things to too many people. We’re not doing a good job at saying, “No”, and there’s a price to be paid. More sales will cost you. Additional clients or members will cost you. So will the desire to read or write more. More will always cost you something.

There are 24 hours in a day…for all of us. You can’t change that. All you can do is better manage the time. It requires making choices. It requires not doing everything you “want” to do. It usually even requires hurting some feelings along the way. But ultimately it’s necessary, and we should be more understanding of others who are trying to take back their own lives, or at least salvage some time for better, more profitable pursuits.

At the end of the day, there’s really not another option. You’re going to have to make some choices, put some things down, and tell some folks you just can’t do it. You’re going to have to prioritize your values and align your activities accordingly. There’s really no other option, and it’s all up to you.

It’s your time. Use it wisely!
