A Memorial Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving

by Lee Buford on May 31, 2010

Today is a day where many Americans will gather to celebrate. They will converge upon beaches and lakes, grill burgers and hot dogs, and enjoy a festive time of fun and relaxation…it’s the holiday thing to do.

Today is also a day where many Americans will gather to mourn. They will converge upon cemeteries and memorial services, pray with and console one another, and remember family members who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation’s freedom.

Enjoy the day with family and friends if you have the opportunity. Eat, drink, and be merry. Celebrate the freedoms we have in this great nation. But take the time to remember and pray for those for whom this day may not be quite as festive.

Freedom is anything but “free”, and it has come at a quite a cost for many of our brothers and sisters!

Give thanks, first for the blessing and favor of our great God, for He has blessed this nation beyond comprehension…even when we have so often abandoned Him. Secondly, give thanks for the men and women who have served, or currently are serving, in order that we may enjoy such blessed freedom as we know it.

Memorial Day is indeed a day to celebrate. Let’s celebrate the right things…the right way.
